Baked Chicken Flautas

Continuing on our party foods theme, here is another great dish to make for a party or bring to a party! Baked Chicken Flautas are an easy and delicious snack food, and back in Texas, these types of finger foods are always a welcome appetizer! I hope you will give them a try at your next gathering.

Baked Chicken Flautas are basically chicken and cheese rolled into flour tortillas, and baked rather than fried (in order to save a few calories!) However, they still taste delicious. 🙂  Because these are made from flour tortillas, they are called Flautas, but if they were made from corn tortillas they would be called Taquitos. I personally prefer Taquitos but in Switzerland good corn tortillas can be tricky to find, so it’s a bit easier to use flour tortillas, since they are in almost every supermarket.  However, if you’d rather substitute corn tortillas – go ahead! It’s an easy swap.

  1. Preheat the oven to 425F/220C. Line a baking tray with baking paper. In a medium bowl, combine the shredded chicken with the cumin, chili powder, salt, garlic powder, paprika, and fresh lime juice. Stir until chicken is well coated with the seasonings. Stir in the shredded cheese. Place a heaping tablespoon of the chicken and cheese mixture in the center of the tortilla and roll it up tightly. Place the tortilla seam side down on the prepared baking sheet. Continue rolling flautas until the tortillas and filling are gone. You should have about 16 flautas. Spray the flautas with nonstick cooking spray or brush with oil. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until flautas are golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oven and serve warm with desired toppings.
